The two-story, checkerboard-patterned Child Care Center is a playful building that will provide a much needed range of preschool, after-school, and summer programs to 115 neighborhood children. Colorful exterior forms and facades recall toys and game boards, and express the exuberance of childhood. This playful approach is consistently applied throughout the design. Children may enter the building through a small "sentry-box" pavilion, and each classroom has its own distinct and sun filled identity. The playground, located in the courtyard, is filled with cheerful equipment,  a garden, shady trees, and a rooftop playground.
